What you'll see in the first few weeks isn't ongoing shedding, it's loose fibre left over from the construction process working its way out. Once that initial batch is gone, it's gone for good, there's no ongoing release of loose fibres from PET yarn the way there is with a natural fibre.

Why People Think PET Yarn Sheds

It's an easy assumption to make, especially if you've owned a wool rug before and noticed the same thing early on. But the mechanism behind it is genuinely different. PET yarn is a fully synthetic fibre. Unlike a natural fibre such as wool, it doesn't have an ongoing characteristic of releasing fibre over the years. What you're seeing early on is a one-time effect from the weaving process, not a characteristic of the fibre itself. How Long Does It Actually Take?

Most of this loose fibre works its way out within the first few weeks of regular use and vacuuming, well short of the months it can take a natural fibre like wool to fully settle. Once that period passes, there's genuinely nothing left to come loose.

Does Profile Affect This?
